Town Hall
Piazza S. Secondo

Donated to the town in 1558 by Emanuele Filiberto, the original medieval structure was transformed in about 1730 in an intervention by B. Alfieri, who also designed the main staircase in 1741. In 1817 the facade was embellished with the roof-terrace, while only in 1867 was the wing along Via Palazzo di Cittˆ completely rebuilt. Inside, worthy of note are the frescos by the Asti-born O. Bausano (stairway) and P. Arri (reception hall). The "art nouveau" wrought iron work of the staircase was created by A. Mazzucotelli from Lodi. In the entrance hall there is the touchstone for linear measures and the length of bricks and roof-tiles in use on the Asti marked until the late Middle Ages.

Church of St. Secondo
Piazza S. Secondo

Known in the Middle Ages as the church of St. Secondo of the Merchants. Built on the burial site of the patron saint of the city, just outside the Roman city-walls. Architecture: 8th century crypt, once the ancient chapel. Romanesque bell-tower (10th century) belonging to the church which was later replaced by the present Gothic structure in the shape of a Latin cross (13th-14th century). Facade (15th century) in the Romanesque style; Chapel of St. Secondo (end of the right aisle) designed by Bernardo Vittone (18th century). Sacristy wood panels (18th century). Paintings: Polyptych (Adoration of the Magi), by Gandolfino da Roreto (15th-16th century). St. Secondo in all his glory, by Stefano Tofanelli (late 18th century). Madonna of the Rosary, by the school of Guglielmo Caccia" Moncalvo" (17th century). Frescos by S. Bianchi (18th century). Sculpture: Choir stalls (18th century), choir loft (workshop of Bonzanigo, 18th century). Organ: Liborio Grisanti (18th century). St. Secondo Square: where the ancient Saint's Market was held. Merchant's and craftsmen's Arcade.

Palace of the "Podesta'"
Corner of Via dei Cappellai/Via S. Incisa

Headquarters of the city government and residence of the "Podesta'" until the 16th century. Gothic architecture (13th century). Vast sunken hall corresponding to the ground floor composed of four cross vaults resting on a single central pillar. The windowshave been altered by various interventions and subsequent renovations. Diamond frieze marking the storeys. Battlements absorbed in the extra storey wall. Corner capitals.
